NEW ENTRY:  CAROLYN GIBBS

Picture
My name is Carolyn Gibbs. I am a 22-year old New Glarus native and reside currently in Edgerton, WI.  By no means professional, but rather self-proclaimed art enthusiast, I’ve enjoyed the many realms of creative ingenuity for as long as I can remember.   I particularly love to paint and sketch, but no challenge or medium fails to draw my interest and hand. With every chance that I have I seek new ways to express my visions and imagination through artwork. I have done a few murals, designed greeting cards, and recently illustrated a book cover for Ms. Yvonne Kane.  For me, art serves as a healthy outlet that is both refreshing and addictive.
Other hobbies of mine include running, rollerblading, wrestling, bicycling, and dancing. I also love spending time with my boyfriend and house-full of animals, boating, going for walks, cooking, and reading. I thrive best in the outdoors and while maintaining a stimulating and positive momentum.
I am grateful for the chance to take part in this event and look forward to discovering where in the future my love for art may take me.

NEW ENTRY:  DR. JOHN GERNETZKE

Picture

Dr. John, a local dentist, at The Grove family Dental & TMJ Clinic in Evansville, was influenced by his primary grade art teacher, Mrs. Burnett.  He studied sculpture in high school and greatly admired the work of Henry Moore.
Dr. John is most well know for his prolific sculpting of molars and bicuspids.  He signs most of his work and has even been know to produce profiles of historic people such as President Obama, Michael Jackson (pre-plastic surgery) and Olivia Newton John.  His intra-oral art work is known for its natural resemblance to true human form.
He was inspired to participate in this endeavor because, in his own words, “I have always wanted to create a larger than life molar, as you know the real ones are pretty small.”  Dr. John and his wife, Mary Ann, have lived in Evansville for more than 20 years and have six children, all whom still believe in the Tooth Fairy.

NEW ENTRY:  ARTIST AND LONG TIME EVANSVILLE RESIDENT RICHARD KRAKE

Picture
Richard was born into the small community of Pulcifer on May 6, 1939.  He went to an eight-grade, country school and learned to draw by listening to the radio program WHA-"Let's Draw" with James Schwalbach.  He received his first painting instruction and a set of watercolor paints from his 4-H leader in Gillett.  It wasn't until 1959, Richard's second year in college, that he had formal instruction in art at Superior State University.  He majored in industrial arts at Stout State University; however, an aptitude test administered by a psychology professor changed the direction of his career.  Richard transfered to Superior State University and received his BS in 1962.  Richard earned an MA from the University of Wyoming-Laramie in 1969 and he has continued to acquire knowledge and skill, taking graduate level courses at UW-Whitewater and UW-Madison.  Richard taught school for 39 years (three years at Rice Lake, one year at Owen-Withee and 35 years in the community of Evansville).  He retired from teaching in 2001 and is now dedicating his time and efforts to some serious painting and drawing.  Richard lives in Evansville with his wife, Nancy.  They have raised seven daughters and now enjoy the fine art of "grandparenting".  Richard's paintings are for sale and can be seen at his home by appointment.  He also does commission work, including paintings of family homes, pets, historic sites and local areas of interest.

Please call 608-882-4144 to set up an appointment to install your windmill on Main St. We would like to try to install 4 to 5 at one time.

New Entry:  Teresa Grace Covington from Janesville WI...more info soon.

New Entry: Jean Wyse

Picture
As a self-taught, mixed media artist, Jean uses her creative talents in various ways. She first took an interest in fabrics and embellishments on textiles, adding fancy embroidery stitches to her projects.  Jean then went on to work with clay, sculpting hands and faces on different characters such as winter men with themes, clowns, animals, and other handmade embellishments to add to her characters.  One of her works was Rawinda riding a wooly handmade sheep, an english lad, a gardner, man of quilts, an elderly lady knitting, an arabian sultan and many more. Her characters are made from scratch with wood and wire amature to include tibetan wool for hair and beards, while incorporating vintage buttons, old fabrics and found objects.  In 1994 she was invited to exhibit at the American Heritage Market in Pennsylvania where the Museum of American Folk Art purchased several of her characters for their gift store.  While still hoping to finish a winter character this year, (view a winter fellow in the blog section) she has found 4 more forms of art to work with, hand soldering pendants and charms, collaging on canvas, punchneedle, and altering books. You can find some of her work in her shop at Windmill Antiques 7 East Main and also in her shop at www.guidoneetsy.etsy.com and just for fun, visit her blog at idamaria-appletree.blogspot.com

New Entry:  Justin & Jennifer Phillips

Picture
A new business to the downtown is our latest entry to this event. Phillips Photography is owned by Justin and Jennifer Phillips of Evansville.  Justin has been a photographer for over 15 years.  Photography has been his passion and love since he was a child.  Justin has worked for other photography studios over the years but dreamed of his own studio someday.  When Justin and Jennifer moved to Evansville two years ago they were sad to see there was no portrait studio in town for families living in the community.  In 2008 Phillips Photography was opened to fill that need.  Justin & Jennifer shared a small rental space at the Grange Store Mall when first opened.  One year later the studio has been a success and fortunate enough to move to a new location at 11 West Main Street in Evansville.  The new studio was remodeled to add a large portrait studio and provides enough space to offer a wide range of services.

Remember, you may manipulate the windmill structure, however, the blades must still operate with the wind. Also, keep in mind, the structure should be high enough to be seen over parked cars. This year, the windmills will only be located up and down Main Street, next year we will extend the locations to include side streets and possibly the east business area on Hwy 14.

New Entry:  Gary Walker from Woodland Studio, Stoughton WI

Picture
Here is a brief bio for, Gary Walker My Background - Previous to fine arts, for over 30 years, I worked on national consumer products accounts as a creative director producing marketing projects with photographers, illustrators and designers.  Originally, I was trained in the old school of traditional mediums, but since the mid-80's, I have been working with high-end creative technologies. These new digital tools revolutionized the commercial art business and are now doing the same for the world of fine arts.

My Medium – Digital painting redefines mixed media. It allows artists to blend high tech graphics and photography with other traditional art mediums.  For me, I often start with photography, but I see this as only the first layer of my work.  Using a variety of computer graphics programs, I exaggerate the graphic textures of the image and begin abstracting it into a fine art digital painting.  I print my own work as hand-pulled artist proofs on museum quality, fine art giclée prints.  Sometimes, I over-paint with other mediums like watercolors, pastels, colored pencils or acrylics.
Welcome Gary, to our Event!

Entry for Windmills On Parade:
Cherie Greek - Rediscovered Treasures    www.studio213llc.com
I have been painting Carousel Animals for 28 years. I started at House on the Rock, where my mother Virginia Reynolds was painting carousel horses.  Once she showed me how to bring the Carousel animals back to life, I can't seem to stop.   I restore old horses and other menagerie animals and also paint new horses.  My horses can be wood, metal, fiberglass and resin. You can bring in your own animal or I have some in the store to choose from.  I can also custom paint any of the new horses for you.  When I am not painting animals I paint on all those pieces of furniture, buckets, shovels, picnic baskets and anything else that no longer is in great condition. Come see what has been made into a usable, unique piece- It might give you some great ideas for something you own and didn't know what to do with.
